Why This Reference Exists
There is no official volume that lists every Union County household. Instead, the County Clerk keeps recorded land instruments, municipal assessors keep parcel information, the Board of Elections handles registration procedures, and libraries hold dated directories and newspapers. A person researching a current property question, a family-history question, or an older address often needs several custodians. Union County Residents Directory identifies those distinct paths, including when a counter, library, archive, or written request is more useful than a web form.
The record dates matter. The Clerk's Record Room reaches back to 1857, but its web land index begins June 1, 1977. Union Public Library and Plainfield collections cover different directory eras. State and local systems also limit vital, court, and protected-address records. The purpose is to help a reader ask the right office for the right record.
Materials and Search Routes
Pages are arranged around the way a record is keyed, rather than around a promise that one search will answer every question.
- Address work: the Streets page follows a parcel, owner, and recorded-instrument trail.
- Published history: the City Directory page identifies local directory runs, microfilm, and digitized holdings.
- Name verification: the Resident Lookup page distinguishes a court, deed, voter, vital, or library result.
- Local geography: the ZIP, previous-resident, and neighbor pages explain the particular limits of postal, historic-address, and adjacent-parcel research.
Limits of This Service
Union County Residents Directory is privately operated. It is not a Union County office, New Jersey agency, court, library, or records custodian. It cannot search a protected file, issue a certified copy, confirm a person's current residence, amend a public record, or resolve a legal dispute. The office that holds a record is the only source that can certify, correct, or explain it.
Availability changes as portals, privacy rules, and catalog holdings change. Verify the record itself with the responsible custodian before relying on it. For protection concerns, use the Address Confidentiality Program, Daniel's Law process, court procedure, or other official channel that fits the record.
Nothing on this private reference may be used for credit, employment, tenant, insurance, or another FCRA-regulated decision.
